Established in San Diego in April 2006, The Knotstop was created to make high-quality massage therapy feel accessible, consistent and deeply personal.
Our Story
Built from a real belief in the power of massage.
The Knotstop began with owner Adam Shevel’s personal experience with massage therapy. After a shoulder injury left him facing possible surgery, Adam explored a more holistic path and received massage therapy for the first time.
With the help of a skilled therapist, his shoulder improved significantly and surgery was avoided. That experience made him a strong believer in massage not only for recovery, but also as a regular part of prevention, maintenance and long-term health.
At the time, regular massage often felt limited to high-end day spas or private individual providers. Adam saw an opportunity to create something different: a serene, welcoming massage studio where people could receive excellent bodywork regularly without losing quality, comfort or personal attention.

From the beginning, Adam’s goal was to create a place where massage therapy could become part of real life. The Knotstop was built around quality, consistency, customer service and the belief that guests should be known, welcomed, and cared for as individuals.
What began with seven massage rooms and a small team has grown into a trusted San Diego wellness destination offering massage therapy, organic skincare, memberships and a curated boutique experience.
